Geisha As 'Memoirs of a Geisha' goes on general release, we follow two Geisha apprentices on their training. It's an intriguing glimpse of what goes on behind the painted smiles.
"It's a tougher world than I expected", confides Fakunami. The traditional skills of a Geisha take a lifetime to perfect. As Japan modernises rapidly, this way of life is under attack. Once there were more than 80,000 Geishas; now only a few thousand remain.
