The Cow Whisperer

The Cow Whisperer As well as being America's most famous animal scientist, Temple Grandin is what is known as a high-functioning autistic. Has her autism given her a unique insight into animal behaviour?

After this year's Emmy-nominated feature length biopic of her life, Dr. Grandin has emerged as a remarkable woman with an inspirational story to tell. "Temple was always a huge attraction and admired in the autism world but since the movie, it's just become literally rock star status", says Wayne Gilpin of 'Future Horizons'. Her designs for rearing cattle are used worldwide and her writings have helped many to reduce the stress levels of their animals. Temple Grandin herself is humble and seemingly unaware of the effect her work has had, "Those cattle never would have been born if we hadn't put the bulls and the cows together...We've bred 'em, now we've just got to treat 'em right". Her fans though, one of whom exclaims, "She's been an amazing inspiration", clearly admire and adore Grandin and her stand-out career. She was named in the top 100 'most influential' people by Time magazine. So what's next for the 62 year old animal scientist?
