Nutkin's Last Stand

Nutkin's Last Stand The English love their native red squirrels. As the species comes under increasing threat, a 'red army' of activists have stepped forward to defend the beloved national symbol.
"We're looking at the extinction of a whole species", a volunteer for Save Our Squirrels laments. The grey squirrel was introduced late in the 19th century, spreading a deadly virus and claiming the red squirrel's territory ever since. Writing songs, staging protests and even killing and eating the grey squirrel, many Britons have swung to the red squirrel's defence, determined to keep "a precious part of our heritage here in Britain".
