Memories of a Lost Son On 9/11 Jim Riches was travelling across the Brooklyn Bridge as he saw the second WTC tower collapse. With that he knew his son, a fellow firefighter, was dead. Ten years later he remembers the day.

Immediately Jim knew what he had to do, "I knew he would want me to come look for him". He called his other son and they went down to the site and picked through the dismembered bodies. "We dug it out by hand and carried him out of the pit", he recalls, holding a portrait of his son. But the anniversary he says will be to celebrate Jimmy's life, not mourn his death.
