The Company

For over twenty years Journeyman has distributed and co-produced, provocative, profound and original factual content, working with the top players in the industry. We're one of the leading independent suppliers of award winning stories to the world broadcast market and pride ourselves on a position at the spearhead of the factual agenda. With a very successful catalogue covering a myriad of subjects and styles; commercial, current affairs, and feature docs, we always keep at heart a central journalistic ethic that goes to the very roots of the company.

After years reporting from dangerous war zones across the world, company founder Mark Stucke began formulating a unique distribution system that would bring a greater return for the valuable copyright he and fellow producers were risking their necks to create. Twenty years on our agenda remains the same: to always be looking for new ways to create revenue for the stories our partners tell - and that's no easy task in a world in which serious factual content is rapidly disappearing from mainstream outlets.

We operate 3 departments: documentaries, news, and footage. At the heart of our sales operation are our media-rich newsletters, 'The Journeyman Weekly' and 'Doc of the Week', which offer an overview of our latest documentaries and go out to over 6,000 buyers worldwide. These are just part of the most sophisticated online marketing campaign mounted by any distributor, incorporating our award-winning You Tube channels and VOD platforms. All this is supported by a hungry sales team with a strong understanding of the broadcast market.

The combination of interactive web platforms, a powerful publicity machine and a topical sales focus means our films target both broadcasters, and the consumer directly. And our Google partnership means the films are always discoverable and continually kept alive, even years after launch.

In a world driven by ratings and a quick entertainment fix, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get intelligent, international coverage seen. It is a challenge we thrive on. We’re constantly pushing forward new developments to keep ahead of an ever-changing game.

The Team

Mark Stucke

Mark Stucke

Mark is the founder and managing director of Journeyman. At 19 he was already working in documentary and had his first taste of a war zone with a doc on the Mujahideen fighting the Russians in Afghanistan. He then turned his hand to Hollywood, establishing himself as the loudest AD out there. But at 28 he reverted to his first love, factual TV. He established Journeyman Pictures and returned to front-line war reporting. After using up 8 of his 9 lives, Mark dropped life in the world's war zones to become a dedicated factual distributor.

Emma Simpson

Emma Simpson

Being in charge of day to day operations makes Emma a jack of all Journeyman trades, from acquisitions to sales and anything in between. But her main love is running the post production department, mostly handling reversioning of feature length docs for the TV market. Emma also oversees development projects and manages the ever-changing digital and technical landscapes. Just so long as the rest of the team keep the cups of tea rolling in she can solve pretty much any problem thrown at her.

Edward Caffrey

Edward Caffrey

Our head of documentary acquisitions and sales, charming Irishman Eddie started out life at Journeyman as an intern and then just wouldn't leave. As well as ensuring that the biscuit tin never gets too full, he is always on the prowl for great new documentaries and new clients to sell them to. He also likes to practice his Spanish with the friendly buyers in his main sales territories; Spain and Latin America.

Kasia Kusnierz

Kasia Kusnierz

Running our footage sales department as well as handling documentary sales in Eastern Europe and Asia keeps our friendly sales and business affairs executive Kasia pretty busy. Luckily she comes armed with supreme organisational skills, a winning smile and a love of factual film.

Lucy Matthias

Lucy Matthias

Lucy is Journeyman's head of publicity, co-ordinating our weekly news and documentary releases, handling press, keeping our social media buzzing and arranging screenings of our brilliant docs. She also handles some acquisitions of short and long form films.

Taryn Burroughs

Taryn Burroughs

Taryn handles our news and shorts sales, making sure our topical reports reach the global broadcast market, often hot from the front line. She is also our amazing accounts manager, keeping a firm but friendly control over the company purse strings. When she isn't chasing the latest sale or the latest unpaid invoice, Taryn is a talented photographer who keeps the office entertained with her stories of life growing up in South Africa.

Alex McCunn

Alex McCunn

Our editor and technician, Alex is responsible for delivering material to broadcasters, meeting their endlessly varying requirements and making sure all new incoming films meet his high quality control standards. He also fixes things when they break and stops things from blowing up. Just some of his many talents include editing, sound recording and mixing, creating publicity artwork, encoding to a veritable zoo of video formats, pushing buttons and fiddling with wires.

Robbie Scarfe

Robbie Scarfe

Robbie runs the new digital media side of Journeyman, working like a demon to keep up with online developments and maintain our many online platforms. When he isn't tweeting about our latest films and encoding video files, he also has a knack for designing awesome graphics and coming up with snappy film titles. His favourite part of the job is being The Voice of Journeyman, narrating many of our incoming reports and docs.

Keely Stucke

Keely Stucke

Keely cut her teeth at Journeyman nearly 20 years ago filming in Somalia. Since then she has been a dedicated in-house editor and writer. She has turned out several respected series and pioneered our mega successful reversion operation. She offers filmmakers a safe pair of hands to carry their babies to market, as she knows cut down doesn't have to mean dumbed down.

Tolly Robinson

Tolly Robinson

When he isn't busy attending Justin Bieber concerts, Tolly is a very useful man to have around. Running Journeyman's DVD outlet and offering technical support across the company, Tolly is always finding new ways to make the Journeyman operation fly. A skilled researcher and budding filmmaker, he also puts his creativity to good use designing artwork and supporting our post-production operation.

Harry Amies

Harry Amies

Harry first began working with Journeyman Pictures in 2008 when he built the online platform that serves all Journeyman's Video On Demand content. With an extensive background in both online and film-making he has now come on board to head up Journeyman's online media new projects development. He is also an active film and documentary maker.
