Revolutionaries or Terrorists? The Philippines is seen as one of the frontlines in the War of Terror. But dubbing local armed groups terrorists seems to be making the situation worse.
"We are home-grown, legitimate revolutionaries", states Comrade Oris from the New People's Army. "How can we be terrorists in our own land?" For many years, they were partners in the peace process. But - following George W Bush's visit - they're now regarded as terrorists. Since then, levels of violence have increased. "We need to get away from these labels and go back to the pre 9/11 days of engagement", states peace process advisor, Paul Clifford. "What is it these people want?" According to one report, the most common dominator of rebel villages is the lack of a local school.
