He is suffering from a shrapnel wound. I think it’s from an RPG Most of the injuries, especially in Homs, are from shrapnel, nail bombs or RPGs And injuries from bullets Recently we have started receiving patients missing limbs 01:00 VO: Like his patients, Doctor Mazen, as he asked to be known, fled Syria for Lebanon after the hospital he worked in was attacked by Assad’s security forces. 01:11 Doc: A number of people were injured and they went to the hospitalWe hardly have any capabilities in the hospitals of our neighbourhoodThe hospital was targeted and it was stormed by regime thugsThey destroyed all the equipment They arrested all the injured They threatened the residents who had come to give blood They ripped the blood bags and threw them on the ground 01:47 VO: Though international law guarantee access to medical care for all those injured during conflict, international rights groups say the Assad regime has persistently targeted patients both on their way to and inside hospital. 02:02 Doc: If any injured is suffering from a bullet wound or a large injury he will bleed to death We are not able to do blood transfusionsInjured people are prevented from entering hospitals And if they do go to hospital they will be killed or arrested And handed back to their family a few hours later as a corpse With signs of torture 02:25 VO: A defected officer known as Abu Yazan describes how he was wounded in Homs and why he was then smuggled to Lebanon, rather than receiving treatment in Syria. 02:36 ABU YAZAN:My mission was to stop the Assad tanks crossing at a certain pointMy soldiers and I and a higher rank officer were waiting for the tanks to enter Bab AmrWe wanted to prevent them entering the neighbourhood and raping women A helicopter appeared above us, filmed us and took our coordinatesThen the rocket launcher started shooting at our position And I was injuredThe Free Syrian Army with help from residents gave me first aidAs officers of the Free Syrian Army we cannot go to hospital Because if they see us enter a hospital they will shell it So I received treatment in a field hospital And was then transferred to Lebanon. 03:4203:5104:0604:10 VO: In its latest assault on Homs, regime forces reportedly shelled the Hikmat hospital.
