The drugs trade reaches new heights in China

Drugs Since China's Yunnan province opened its border with Burma it has become one of the most lucrative narcotics routes in the world, in particular for heroin.
Some 2,000 police storm a drug baron's hide-out in China's Yunnan Province. Skeletal drug addicts lie in their own rotting rubbish. The fight against narcotics is a national priority. Anyone found with more than 50 grams of drugs is executed. Thousands of addicts sleep in the parks of Yunnan's capital Kunming. If caught they are jailed in a police detoxification centre. Police videotape shows junkies going cold turkey with no care or rehabilitation offered. Yet There is rampant drug abuse by prostitutes and Kunming is the HIV capital of China. As China's leaders hail their economic revolution, doctors warn that the gap between rich and poor will force many to turn to drugs as a cure-all for their woes. (
