Generation X
Iraqi students' perspective on the Iraq war
Interviews with Iraqi students before the war praised Saddam Hussein and castigated the American invasion. Now, with the minders gone, their views haven't changed. "We've just replaced Saddam Hussein with a greater power - the United States," seethes Uday Saddik. His ex-colleagues at the University of Baghdad agree. "We were helpless before, and now we are even more helpless," states Haider, who still denies Saddam ever gassed the Kurds. Iraq's elite students were always the most sheltered from the tyranny of Hussein, but their criticism of American policy is still damning.
