The bombing of the Paradise Hotel in Kenya was meant to target Westerners. It is Kenya’s Muslim population, however, that are suffering from the fallout of the terrorist attack.
Mombasa’s beautiful beaches stretch as far as the eye can see. But the beaches are all deserted. The USA and UK imposed travel bans on Kenya in the wake of the Paradise Hotel Bombing, leaving the Kenyan tourist industry as the latest casualty in the war on terror. To prove they are combating terrorism, the Kenyan authorities have started harassing and arresting hundreds of civilians. “We’re called terrorists so that we can be targeted,” complains one Muslim speaker. Now many Kenyans fear that supporting the War on Terror is approving the persecution of innocent Muslims.
