"He knew of the plans and activities of the militias in East Timor," complains Jose Ramos-Horta, East Timor's Foreign Minister. "He didn't do anything to prevent the bloodshed." Over 1,200 East Timorese died at the hands of the militias when Wiranto commanded the Indonesian forces. The UN wants to see him indicted for crimes against humanity. But Wiranto insists he's already been cleared by the Indonesian justice system. "I went through a fair and honest investigation and trial process," he maintains. He's angry that these accusations have been brought up again and sees them purely as a slur on his election campaign. But with a new warrant out for his arrest it seems that the issue is not about to go away.
