In the immediate aftermath of the Suharto years, electing another military official would have been unthinkable. But years of economic stagnation have left Indonesians longing for a 'strong man' to take control. Enter former Suharto advisor and retired General Yudhoyono. "I want to change Indonesia for the better," he declares. He has reinvented himself as a democrat and even pledges to go ahead with the trial of former boss General Suharto if elected.
