Each year, hundreds of South African teachers brave London's inner-city schools. But their students' disruptive behaviour soon drives them away.
Even a large pay packet and the lures of the city isn't enough to retain enough teachers. Swearing, disruptive children who can't concentrate for more than 20 minutes and who simply don't care are just some of the problems they have to deal with. Little wonder that many soon return to South Africa, worn down by excessive workloads and a system that needs but doesn't always respect them.
