PKK Rebel Camps
The PKK refuge within Syria
Syria's continued support for the enemies of Israel and Turkey has provoked both countries to give Syria a vote of no confidence.
Syria allows Hizbollah terrorists to operate from South Lebanon, which it controls by proxy, as well as offering refuge to Turkish PKK guerrilla. In a secret location in the heart of Syria, PKK training camps are allowed to flourish. We set off to find one such camp and here we find Kurds from all over the world. In an initiation ceremony they swear allegiance to the PKK guerrillas. They've come to train before going off into the mountains to fight the Turkish government. Abdullah Ocalan, leader of Turkey's PKK, lives in this camp. He tells us he prefers 'to recruit only one member from a family' although 'there are families who have given three or four martyrs' to the struggle. He denies all other Syrian support for the PKK aside from permission to be based in Syria. Whilst Syria has traditionally denied supporting the PKK, we prove its support for Turk and Israeli enemies to ensure its own strength in the Middle East. Despite being an integral partner in the negotiations, Syria has entirely destabilised the peace process.
