Straddling the divide between Europe and Asia Minor, Istanbul in Turkey is celebrated for its architecture. But while the Byzantine monuments of Caliphs and Sultans grace the waterfront, the antique buildings of more humble origins are falling into decay. The wooden houses of bureaucrats and tradesmen would have disappeared completely if wasn't for one man - Celik Bey. Artist, historian and architect, he has made it a personal mission to rescue entire streets from the bulldozer. Thanks to his efforts islands, cobbled streets and public parks have been restored to their former glory.
