Six years ago, Mohamed Abbass disappeared from Cairo leaving his family destitute. Despite clear evidence he is being imprisoned, nothing is being done to help him.
His family have received demands for large amounts of money to secure his release. They have even visited him in an Egyptian prison. But the Egyptian government refuses to acknowledge that he is being imprisoned so Australia can do nothing to help. As his wife laments: "He has fallen into a chasm between the two countries." (SBS)
