Java's Gods Must Be Crazy
Java's mystics believe the island suffers because its people have forgotten their "spiritual traditions". Those that used to lead the ceremonies now don't take part. Sultan Hamengkubuwono refuses to "think the way they did 100 years ago". Yet, as pressure increases on him and the ruling party to do so, he might have to think again - to placate the people as much as their Gods.
