Hunger in Malawi
A corpse is lying on a mat in a hut full of crying women. They are mourning the latest victim of hunger in their village. The thirty-year-old deceased had AIDS and leaves behind two small children. The sick and the very young are the first to suffer from malnutrition. An enduring drought has hit Malawi and in some villages not even mangoes are left to feed the hungry inhabitants. The UN World Food Programme attempts to provide millions with food but it is insufficient. More aid needs to be sent quickly to avert utter disaster but it might already be too late.
