The Convert
For almost two decades, Nasir Abas trained Muslim militants for war. But after former pupils carried out the Bali Bombing, he turned against Jemaah Islamiah. Now he helps the police track them down.
"What they did in Bali was a crime", states Abas. Even before his arrest, he confronted JI's leaders about the targeting of civilians. He saw his arrest as a chance to make amends and began helping the police. As well as identifying JI members, he also visits convicted terrorists in prison and tries to reform them.
