Nikolai Chuprov grew up in one of Stalin's gulags. Decades later - and for reasons even he doesn't understand - he moved back to the deserted camp. He is now its last remaining resident.
The abandoned settlement of Miakit was one of the provincial capitals of Stalin's gulag. Archive footage shows prisoners digging its roads. Today, Nikolai Chuprov lives there alone. The walls of his shack are hung with other people's discarded photos. By contrasting Chuprov's life today with rare archive of the gulags, director Alexander Gutman provides a unique commentary on Russia's past and present.
