Across Europe specialist matchmaking services offer Russian brides to lonely men. Yet many of the brides on offer don't actually exist. Our reporter joins a 'dating agency' as Alex, a Belgian man looking for a Russian wife. He strikes up a friendship with 27 year-old Marina Tsjernykh from Moscow. 'I am surprised to see your profile on a dating site', she says. 'Why is such a nice man alone?' But Marina isn't a real person; she is the creation of a criminal gang. In the town of Josjkar-Ola, one in every hundred people earns their living from the marriage scam. 'Each victim loses between 10,000 and 50,000 euros,' says an official at the public prosecutor's office. 'They have cheated more than 100,000 people from all over the world'.
