Weapons Not Words
After six years of war, the internally displaced communities of Darfur have had enough. "'Some of us had children raped in front of our eyes. ...UNAMID is not protecting us.." Young men, known collectively as the 'Shehab', are beginning to take matters into their own hands. "If security doesn''t come, the only option is to fight ourselves." Now suffering attacks from the Shehab themselves, UNAMID feels helpless. The Sudanese government is blocking their supplies. And they also lack an international mandate allowing them to shoot in order to protect civilians. "How will they protect us? They can't even protect themselves!"
