Children of Zanskar
In the isolated regions of the Indian Himalayas, reliance on traditional healing methods is reducing life expectancy. The people of Zanskar are literally risking their lives to keep their traditional Buddhist heritage alive.
The health care that serves these people relies on traditional healers. "They're known as Oracles, mystical Tibetan Buddhist healers, believed to have magical powers." An Australian project is aiming to improve primary health care by helping to train these traditional healers. Organising trips to the capital city of Leh, women are given the chance to be trained in hospitals. "What we're looking for is to combine the best of both worlds."
