Westland Helicopters

Westland Helicopters An archival sequence shot at Westland Helicopters showing military testing and development of early remote controlled helicopters. Most interestingly, the helicopter is controlled by radar!
10:00:00 - Shots of a mobile radar device mounted on a military van next to some woodland.
10:04:28 - Three men dressed in military clothes at work in a control cabin which overlooks open land. The men look at several monitors whilst they tinker with buttons on the panel in front of them.
10:09:47 - Technicians dressed in civilian clothes at work in a workshop. Several shots showing the inner workings of high-tech machinery.
10:14:00 - Technicians testing a small prototype helicopter outdoors. The prototype's rotors turn but the machine does not take off.
10:16:01 - Back in the workshop. A man in blue overalls plays around with the small prototype.
10:16:18 - Another small prototype takes off in a field and hovers about with some difficulty.
10:19:01 - Interior shots: testing landing skids inside the workshop, shots of rotor transmission circuit boards.
10:23:21 - Technicians preparing for an outdoor test of the prototype. Cut to technicians working on a control panel inside the workshop, and then back to the prototype test. The small rotorcraft takes off with difficulty again.
10:25:33 - Several men dressed in military clothes try to land helicopter prototypes from a portable control panel out in the open.
10:29:57 - Indoors control room. Shots of several monitors which display scientific data and of man and a woman working at a control panel.
