Cordova - the town that bore the brunt of the spill - has seen increased bankruptcies, suicides, alcoholism and domestic violence during the aftermath of the 11 million gallons of oil that spilt over 1,500 miles of idyllic coastline. Captain Young says, "We lost our industry and my son became a drug addict because of the oil spill. Our mayor committed suicide the next year. It impacted the whole town. A lot of people became alcoholics, a lot of divorces". Will those wanting to help people on the Gulf Coast in America learn the lessons of Cordova? these residents certainly hope so...
