"Long live Catalonia! Freedom!", the crowds chant in the streets. Passions run high for Barcelona FC and increasingly the fans have flocked to the stadium to support the bid for Catalonia's independence. "They don't understand us, we don't feel loved", says local politician Bosco Anton. The club has for a long time been involved in political struggle, and as Spain plunges further into financial crisis and unpopular austerity cuts are causing country-wide protests, the cries for independence are becoming louder. "They had taken our money, so that's why the people in Catalonia are claiming for independence." What happens in parliament next year will have profound implications for the club and the region, but what will it mean for Spain's troubled economy and national identity?
