The Balkan Route through Serbia and Hungary is increasingly used by migrants to enter Europe in search of a better life. Asylum seekers take a huge risk in crossing the continent, as one Afghan migrant describes. "It's very dangerous... the sort of thing you usually only see in movies." As these migrants make their way across the country "like shadows", they face one problem after another. Teary-eyed, one man recounts the years of waiting for asylum to be granted, and of missing his lost son. In footage of a smuggling operation taking clients to the Hungarian border for 200 Euros per person, we see that there is no shortage of people willing to exploit the desperate position of migrants. And at an estimated cost of 7000 Euros for the whole journey to Italy from Greece, few can afford the entire crossing. Radso Djirovic explains the problems this growing body of asylum seekers could cause within Serbia. Yet as he notes, "Serbia is just one step on the road". Whether it will be a migrant's last step on their quest for a better future is uncertain.
