Driver Distraction
"There isn't much difference between handheld and hands-free conversations", says Professor Simon Washington, who suggests we must rethink allowing hands-free calls when driving. Yet he argues that telephone conversations aren't the worst offender: "We found children were 12 times more likely to distract than cell phones". It may not be feasible to ban kids or mobiles from cars entirely, but recognizing the dangers will go a long way to protecting ourselves from road accidents.
