An interview with Martin Wells of London PR firm Bell Pottinger on their role in managing perceptions of the Iraq War
In May 2006 Martin Wells was employed by a top London PR firm, Bell Pottinger, and sent to Baghdad. In 2016 he gave this interview, revealing the covert propaganda war the firm handled for the US military.
Stationed in the US military's Camp Victory in Baghdad, PR firm Bell Pottinger created and disseminated Arabic-style news to the local region in a £120 million/year deal with the US government. "We were to make it look like it was created by Arabic TV", says Wells. Wells was also tasked with creating fake propaganda CDs encoded with tracking software, "looking for a trail to someone who could be a threat"
