Jürgen Todenhöfer Returns to Mosul
In 2014, Jürgen Todenhöfer gained unprecedented access into the inner workings of the Islamic State, filming his documentary Inside IS. Now he returns to a desolate Mosul, questioning the effectiveness of the West's intervention.
Todenhöfer is adamant that Western bombardments are strengthening the cause of terrorism: "this is not how IS will be destroyed - This is how you destroy Mosul and cultivate new terrorists". Buildings he visited in the past are destroyed, but it is the civilian population who have been most devastated by the bombings. "Suddenly, explosions! I went from wandering around with my daughter to cowering... I called her name, but she didn't reply", says one traumatised father.
