Return to Ryan's Well
Ryan returns to Uganda after 15 years to witness the impact he's had on the lives of villagers
At 6-years-old Ryan Hreljac started to save money to build a well in Uganda. Now, 15 year later, he has built wells across the country, giving hundreds of people access to clean drinking water.
71% of families who travel to fetch clean water rely on girls to do the work. Often these girls have to sacrifice their education. "They have to give so much for something that in Canada I consider so immediate", Ryan says. His efforts have led to 10 wells being built in the area of Aromo in the last year alone. Once built the wells are owned by the communities, saving precious time and resources, a vision Ryan hopes to continue to grow.
