"I want to know how to recognise an abusive relationship", explains comic Becky Lucas. As a comedian Lucas is used to joking about taboo subjects, but now she wants to make domestic violence a subject people can discuss openly. She starts her journey at a retirement home, where she meets older women who experienced domestic violence when they were younger but felt powerless to take action: "You never left because where would you go?", asks one. Today, 1 in 3 women worldwide suffers nor has suffered abuse from their partners, but for the most part it remains invisible to the rest of society. "Unfortunately, most abusers look like anyone else", explains social psychologist Dr Dina McMillan.
