Afghanistan: Life in Kabul US forces are now withdrawing from Afghanistan and violence is escalating sharply. As the withdrawal begins, women especially fear a return to peace under a resurgent Taliban.
"Aryana Sayeed is a brave women," says one of her admiring fans. The singer and talent show judge has become a Taliban target due to her vocal women's rights activism. Currently living under a fatwa, she is forced to live in a heavily guarded compound. Since President Trump's announcement that he will withdraw troops from Afghanistan, the US has included the Taliban in withdrawal negotiations. Many Afghans, especially women, fear this will increase the Taliban's influence. "I had a lot of hope for Afghanistan, but now I'm really disappointed because we are going back to the same spot we were in 2002," says prizewinning photojournalist Massoud Houssaini, who fears for Kabul's future without Western support.
