The Fight to Save the Koala From Extinction

Koala Genome Bank Australia's koala population is in rapid decline, partly due to wildfires and urbanisation. With the marsupials declared functionally extinct, one zoo is starting a live genome bank to save the species.
"There’s only 15 percent of the habitats left in Australia”, says expert Deborah Tabart. Responsible for $2.2 billion in tourist revenue annually, the cuddly bears are also at risk from Chlamydia. "They need support, so we bring them into our captive breeding facility", says Al Mucci of the Living Koala Genome Bank project.
