In Thunder, Lightning and Rain
The prejudices faced by women in India
Women of low caste in India still face racism, sexism and systematic abuse in their daily lives. Three marginalised women in Kerala tell their stories of overcoming society’s status quo and forging their own paths.
‘I started playing football to distract me from hunger’, says Seena, a football coach. Now, she has escaped an abusive home life and has played for the Indian national women’s football team. ‘After my husband’s death, I didn’t want to end up as a mourning widow. I like to enjoy my life to the fullest’, says Ammini, a successful fisherwoman.
