Mike's Life Matters
Swiss police acquittal raises racism concerns
Mike Ben Peter died in 2018 following a forceful arrest by 6 police officers in Lausanne, Switzerland. The controversial case of this undocumented Nigerian has shone a light on endemic racism in European law enforcement.
In a case that bears similarities to George Floyd, Mike Ben Peter lost consciousness and died after being knelt on by police. Although all 6 officers were acquitted in June, the case has sparked concerns about structural racism in Switzerland. "If it was a minister or an important person instead of Mike, they would have found evidence, they would have already convicted the police", argues one of Mike's friends.
