Japan's Parental Abductions Following a change in Japan's custody laws, many expected parental abductions to decrease. Systemic issues have proven harder to shake and this doc looks at personal experiences of this flawed system that continue today.
Vincent Fichot, whose children were taken from his home by his wife expresses concern with how much the legal system will support him: "The law is not going to change much, at least for me, but I’m hoping that it’s going to bring change to the next generation." Victims of domestic violence have also expressed concern over this new law exposing them to abusive partners. An anonymous woman states: "We’ll have to discuss matters such as where we live with my former partner." She, like many others, fear the legal system will not support her.
