The success of WAP phones has made the phone operator NTT Do Co Mo Japan’s biggest company in terms of stock market value. Every Sunday Haranjuko Park becomes the catwalk for the youth and their new gadgets. They symbolise a country undergoing dramatic social changes. Houses are being developed in which every room is fully integrated with the Internet. Buses are driven by computers networked over the Internet. But are these hi tech advances for the better? “If we go on like this communication will become colourless”, says one avant garde teenager.
