Adel Smith, President of the Muslim Union of Italy, believes the symbols of all religions should be displayed, or none at all. The Lega Nord, however, wish to give crucifixes out to the public at the government's expense. Differing uses and interpretations of this archaic symbol are causing friction in Italy's increasingly multicultural society.
