Despite living in Melbourne, Senators Randazzo and Fedi represent Italians from Asia, Africa, Antarctica and Australia in the Italian parliament. "We are the first county experimenting with this idea of globalisation of democracy", boasts Cabinet Member Enrico Letta. The new MPs have given Prodi a majority in the Senate. They remain committed to their new role as a bridge between Italians abroad and those in Italy. But some question if they should be allowed to participate in Italian politics. As one woman states: "What does someone who lives in Australia know about the problems in Italy?"
