Brisbane braces for flood crisis Brisbane is preparing for the worst flooding in 36 years. The roads are already inundated with water as the downpour continues. A second series of floods in Queensland seems likely.
"We thought it might have stabilised now we have seen torrential downpours of rain". In the streets people tread through the water to pile up sandbags protecting their belongings. "If we get a downpour of 1 to 2 hundred mm it could turn into a major disaster". Queensland is in a state of emergency, while Brisbane braces itself, other areas already badly affected are struggling to recover. Meanwhile the Wivenhoe catchment is filled with two Sydney harbours of water every day.
