In Europe's poorest country, Moldova, up to 30,000 children have been abandoned as their parents emigrate to Europe to find work.

The money pays for bills, animal fodder and school supplies. In a school lesson, a third of the class stand when asked whose parents live abroad. Most abandoned children live with their relatives or friends. But many also end up in underfunded orphanages.
