Turning the Tide

Turning the Tide This programme is a follow-up of a previous Special Assignment investigation which uncovered the extent of corruption in the South African police and of the abuses done to foreigners. As it was aired, the report triggered public outrage in the country. Here, Special Assignment tackles the subject once more to find out how much has changed since the programme was broadcast and to assess the improvements made in the recruiting process of police services. Even though most recruits join the police to serve the community, their daily contact with corrupt colleagues and low salaries put their integrity to a hard test.
