Art Island
Soichiro Fukutake is heir to a publishing and education conglomerate. He's set up museums and art installations all around the island of Naoshima to show off his multi-million dollar collection But this is much more than a rich man's plaything.
Naoshima has many elderly people but the transformation of the island into a centre for art has given them a new purpose. Akinori Takahashi explains, "Everyone is surprised that us elderly people are being the tour guides." Mr Fukutake says he's excited about helping areas with elderly populations flourish "By using that formula I want to make these depopulated areas with lots of elderly people into affluent areas that have the most smiling faces in the country."
