Police Reforms

Police Reforms The Trump administration has ordered a potential rollback of Obama-era police reforms. Have the reforms helped decrease racially biased policing and shootings, and will lives be threatened by the review?
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Put the knife down!", screams a police officer, in dashcam footage from Seattle's streets in 2012. It shows the city's 8th fatal police-involved shooting in five years. The shooting prompted Seattle's police department to enter into a "consent decree" - court monitored reforms retraining police on how to approach someone in crisis, and minimise use-of-force incidents. "You've got to analyze it from both sides", says Seattle police officer Andrew Marvel, undergoing retraining along with 13 other US departments. Seattle PD's use of force decreased by 60% between 2014 and 2016, yet Attorney General Jeff Sessions has pledged to review and reverse Obama's reforms. Will an end to federal oversight, and the return of police autonomy, undo the successes of Obama's reforms?
