The Ugandan cult that murdered hundreds
The Ugandan doomsday cult were convinced that a Millennium Armageddon was going to occur. Just months after this prophecy was not fulfilled, hundreds of Joseph Kibweteere's followers burned in their compound.
Joseph's wife Theresa and Peter Bananga, the only survivor of the cult massacre, tell us their side. Ex-prostitute Credonia Mwerinde, whose claimed vision of Mary prompted Kibweteere to form the clan, said Theresa was evil. Theresa claims her husband is dead and he and Credonia are in Hell for perverting Christianity. The devotion by members of other clans eerily resembles the description given by sole cult survivor Peter Bananga. "They want to have a god who will answer their prayers immediately". A chilling look at how prophets much like Kibweteere continue to attract followers.
