Shaming Mother Teresa
What really goes on at the Calcutta Missionaries of Charity order?
As Mother Teresa is declared a saint, we re-visit this 2001 report which exposed allegations of child abuse as well as questions about the allocation of donations at the nun's Calcutta Missionaries of Charity order.
"I've seen smacking, yanking around babies by their arms, letting their heads wobble", says a volunteer. Mother Teresa's successor, Sister Nirmala, defended the mission but admitted she has no idea how much money it has. "Nobody knows, it's God's maths." Critics argue that funds were going to religious campaigns rather than poverty relief.
