Surviving Alone
"When my mum was here, we would never be hungry", recalls Nhalnhla Dlamini wistfully. "Now when there is not enough food I drink water." She lives in a small shack with her siblings. Their aunt sometimes helps them but she also has AIDS and will soon die. The problem of AIDS orphans has become so widespread it's created a new category in population records: child headed families.
