Vienna's residents are wary about getting on the wrong side of their chimney sweep. By law, sweeps must be granted access to all buildings. They also have power to veto huge property developments.
"I love the work", states Jurgen. Traditionally, chimney sweeps are symbols of good luck in Vienna. They visit each home, conducting emission tests to check people are only burning approved fuel. And, as no chimney can be demolished without a chimney sweep's permission, property developers in particular are keen to stay on their good side.
