Deadly Vote Politics in the Philippines can be a deadly business - with colourful campaigns marred by political violence, it's a dangerous game. Is there any chance of change in this corrupt and turbulent system?
One candidate who refuses be scared is Toto Mangudadatu. His wife and sisters were brutally murdered in a massacre which took 57 lives. He is currently running for governor. "Despite the tragedy to my family, I still continue my plan to serve the people of our province". Also battling the current political system is Noynoy, the son of ex-President Cory Aquino. Noynoy's father was assassinated; "I was 23 when I returned to the Philippines to bury my father. I was 27 when I was shot in the 1987 coup". Noynoy Aquino runs an anti-corruption platform and uses his mother's old regime as an example. The rich and powerful are at present jockeying for positions in the new government. Despite happy appearances, election time is the deadliest time of all in the Philippines.
